Day 14. The first picture today features Gavin's two favorites. Spiderman and Eiven.
I am looking forward to seeing how personalities develop on these babies. Some seem a little more docile and some a handful, so we will see as time goes by if that holds true. As they can see and hear we will start to see how each starts reacting to the world around them. Speaking of seeing; while holding Otto yesterday I noticed the corner of his one eye is beginning to open. Look closely at the inner corner of his left eye and perhaps you can see it too.
Otto is one of the larger puppies and a bit more mature in some ways. He was one of the first up on all four feet. As of yesterday they are all standing and running helter skelter around the pen when they are hungry and sense their mother is near by.
Here is Eve the bold and beautiful. Though she appears to be black spotted she is actually a very dark liver. Liver Dalmatians actually come in three variations, brown, chocolate and red. It appears we may have some of each in this litter. You may notice the difference between Eve and Eiven's liver color.
The last puppy featured today is sweet little Sparrow. She is the smallest of the crew and very sweet. Sparrow is a name that suits her well; she is like a little bird. She is powerful and strong but gentle. Sparrow is also liver spotted.
Another change I observed yesterday was that the pups are eliminating without being stimulated by their mother. They naturally do not want to go where they sleep, they will begin to move away from their sleeping area to do so. I saw one of the boys yesterday move away from their bed to another part of the pen to pee. Normally at this point I would put paper everywhere in the pen except for the bed. This time we are going to try something different. My plan is to use the Puppy Culture program with this litter. They show that puppies can learn to use a litter box. It is the beginning of house breaking and should make it easier for these guys to learn to go to a specific area to eliminate. I have designed a box that will have paper in the bottom and pellets for them to learn to potty on. Once they get bigger that potty area will be enlarged and I will use wood shavings for the potty area. This is all a new experience for me so we will see how things go.
To appreciate the full affect that we hear several times a day now, you will need to turn your volume up.
